Material: This is the most important choice.

Wood: Excellent for detail. Use a fine-grained hardwood like maple, cherry, or walnut for the cleanest cuts. Softer woods like pine can fuzz or break on very thin "threads."

Acrylic/Plexiglas: Perfect for a translucent, dewy-web effect, especially when edge-lit with LEDs. Cast acrylic machines cleaner than extruded.
