The Taper: Traditional pillars often have a slight entasis (a subtle convex curve) rather than being perfectly straight cylinders.
Pitch & Lead: The "pitch" determines how tightly the scroll winds around the center. A steep pitch looks modern; a shallow, tight pitch looks more traditional.
The Flute: The "valley" between the scrolls can be sharp (V-shaped) or rounded (U-shaped). For CNC work, rounded flutes are easier to sand and finish.
